WHAT IS NOOM?
For a while, let’s ignore the phrase “diet.” Noom, a mobile health app subscription service, promotes people to modify their behavior to live a better lifestyle, in contrast to a typical diet.
It’s not a brand-new concept, Noom. It really made its debut as a straightforward fitness and calorie tracker in 2008. However, the program had been upgraded in 2016 to include a psychology and behavioral change section, user support groups, and personal coaches.
To create a curriculum that addresses the root causes of weight loss challenges, Noom has together a team of behavioral health professionals who have studied cancer, diabetes prevention and treatment, hypertension, and other topics. Noom dieters are taught to concentrate on their attitude before they concentrate on their food. According to the app’s guiding principle, once you’ve decided what needs improvement, your mentality will eventually help you modify your behaviors by forming new neural connections in your brain.
Today, adopting the Noom approach to weight management include analyzing eating habits, controlling food-related emotions, being accountable, and implementing lifestyle adjustments that can lead to long-term weight loss.
HOW DOES NOOM WORK?
- Complete a survey to get a personalized plan.
An online survey that lasts for ten minutes asks standard questions about your height, weight, gender, age, and why you want to lose weight serves as the program’s initial step. Along with these questions, it asks about your level of exercise, how often you eat, and whether you have a family history of conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or depression.
After routines and habits have been assessed, queries like “Have any life events resulted in weight gain in the past few years?” and “Why are you unsure about achieving your weight loss goals?” may surface.
- After paying, install the app on your smartphone and create an account.
Once you’ve chosen to take part in the program and paid the requisite fee, you must download the Noom app. Currently, only smartphones running iOS 12.4 and Android version 6 are supported. You may use it with iPad and Android tablets because tablets often do not come with motion sensors, but the usefulness will be limited (Noom has a step counter). After you’ve installed the app, you’ll be asked to sign in using the email address you used to register for the program.
- Get your calorie budget, meet your trainers, and commit to classes.
You have 16 weeks to finish Noom’s 10 mini-lessons on psychology and behavior development. You select right away if you want to devote no more than five minutes per day to the classes or as much time as 16 minutes per day. You’ll be put in touch with a goal coach around day two, and they’ll personally check in with you twice a week to see how you’re doing and to give encouragement.
You’ll be given a peer group and a group coach a few more days into the program. The group coach oversees the peer group chat, provides weight reduction advice, and occasionally answers specific postings. The group coach and the goal coach both have 2,000 hours of health experience, are degreed in either a bachelor’s or associate’s program, and are trained in everything Noom.
