I like this app relearning French to move up in my work place (tried Spanish but i can’t roll the ‘R’). However I do have a slight speech impediment and have a hard time saying some words. Very frustrating and discouraging when I try to say words through the mic. I get “try again” multiple times (that’s why the 4☆). I understand that some words misspoken can mean different things. So I don’t do the speak part anymore just listen and games. Other than that, I really enjoy this.

I’m enjoying the app. I like the various ways it gets you to learn the words and to speak. For someone who is advanced in a language, I’m still trying to find the advanced lessons. I did find advanced podcasts so that’s good. UPDATE: Great customer service. I changed to the Castilian Spanish and the advanced lessons are there. I studied linguistics and just love how Babbel is set up to easily and completely teach language.

It’s great, until the microphone needs to be used. Although usually works fine, there are times where the mic will not accept the correct pronunciation, and worse than that, occasionally the microphone will never leave the “listening for answer to be finished” state! I have had many times where I cannot finish a lesson because the microphone never stops, meaning that the question is never passed nor failed, which means the lesson can never progress! I believe this may be exclusive to Android.

The app is easy to use, and I feel like I’m making progess. I’m learning Latin American Spanish. The app tells me what European Spanish does differently but doesn’t focus too much on it. The lessons are short and the reviews really help with retention. I’ve knocked off 1 star from my original review because the voice recognition is bad. Like, really bad. Unusable bad. I’m still learning tons, but I’ve had to rely on talking to native speakers to practice.
